Hello, it's Howard brown. It's a Shining Brightly
Howard Brown:Show you get me solo today. So excited to be here. And let me
Howard Brown:give a shout out to some supporters here. So my publisher
Howard Brown:front edge publishing, read the spirit magazine, my podcasts
Howard Brown:house amplify you and the speaker's Academy from Speaker
Howard Brown:slam. So just appreciate all your support along the way.
Howard Brown:Anyways, today's show is very important. It's actually called
Howard Brown:My resilience code. Now, we all need resilience, it's that get
Howard Brown:up and go get out of bed. It's that energy that we need. And it
Howard Brown:can ebb and flow during the day and through periods of of the
Howard Brown:week, and also through our lives. And so resilience is a
Howard Brown:big buzzword out there. And I'll give you a quick definition
Howard Brown:here. So resilience, the capacity to withstand or recover
Howard Brown:quickly from difficulties. It's also called toughness, it can be
Howard Brown:called mental toughness, it can be physical toughness. So it's
Howard Brown:that bounce back or that spring back, get back up again into
Howard Brown:life into business, relationships, health. One of my
Howard Brown:inspiring authors, who wrote the foreword of shining brightly of
Howard Brown:my book is Dr. Robert Wicks, I call him the godfather of
Howard Brown:resilience. And he's probably written now 30, some odd books,
Howard Brown:but one of the books that stood out for me, if you're looking
Howard Brown:for a really great read about kind of building back your, your
Howard Brown:toughness, and your resilience is called bounce. So check that
Howard Brown:out. And it's Dr. Robert wicks. And the book is called bounce.
Howard Brown:So what does it meant to be resilient? And resilience is
Howard Brown:really a process. Okay? It's about adapting yourself, in
Howard Brown:difficult circumstances, challenging life experiences,
Howard Brown:mental, emotional, physical, could be just, you know, outside
Howard Brown:forces, could be theoretical, could be your thoughts could be
Howard Brown:things that work. So there are internal and external demands
Howard Brown:that are placed on you. And they actually have different levels
Howard Brown:of importance in your life. So resilient people, okay, are
Howard Brown:successful, because they are persistent. They can be polite
Howard Brown:and persistent. You can be a bulldog and persistent. But how
Howard Brown:do you get through those difficulties, to be able to
Howard Brown:reach points of success, or to reach your goals or to reach
Howard Brown:your milestones. So people now talk about transformation,
Howard Brown:growth mindset, overcoming some negative emotions, overcoming
Howard Brown:physical things. And this is all has to do with positivity, and
Howard Brown:being able to build in your confidence and confidence has a
Howard Brown:lot to do with that. So I'm not an expert. I'm a lived
Howard Brown:experience guy, right? I've been knocked down to my core with to
Howard Brown:stage four cancer diagnosis, as pretty far getting knocked down
Howard Brown:emotionally, physically, in relationship financially.
Howard Brown:Anyway, you cut it, it wasn't too fun. And what I usually like
Howard Brown:to say is that you have to build back up. And sometimes that is
Howard Brown:by taking two steps back five steps back a step sideways. Or
Howard Brown:sometimes it's a bull rush right up, right up the hill. So you
Howard Brown:have to figure that out for yourself, of course. So I just
Howard Brown:come back off a cruise, the reinvention retreat on the
Howard Brown:Renaissance cruise radiants at the sea, four day cruise, I
Howard Brown:highly recommend it a lot of fun. And shout out to Bobby
Howard Brown:Cabaniss, who put this all together. And I got to be the
Howard Brown:keynote speaker and open things up and set the tone. And I
Howard Brown:wanted to just let you know how I started my session. I had
Howard Brown:everybody stand up intentionally and be able to repeat after me
Howard Brown:that I am a work in progress. And then I hadn't shout I am a
Howard Brown:work in progress. And then put both hands over your heart and
Howard Brown:say I am a work in progress. And if you allow yourself that space
Howard Brown:and grace, understand that you are just a ball of clay every
Howard Brown:single day. Then it gets easier. It gets easier to be able to
Howard Brown:start your day and kick it off and try to actually get get to
Howard Brown:finish your day strong. And it's not every day. I It certainly
Howard Brown:not exposed to me as far as a cancer patient or someone
Howard Brown:dealing with a health crisis, or mental health issues. You know,
Howard Brown:the number one thing that came out of the pandemic was
Howard Brown:loneliness, which led to depression. And in my book, I
Howard Brown:refer to that as darkness. And we can choose to learn from that
Howard Brown:darkness, we can choose to walk in that darkness. But if you
Howard Brown:stay there too long, sometimes bad things happen, or things get
Howard Brown:worse. So we'll talk about that in a second. But what I also
Howard Brown:want to say is that we all start out the day, by being an all
Howard Brown:star, whether we know it or not, it's whether we choose to be an
Howard Brown:all star, can we choose to be an all star dad, mom, sister,
Howard Brown:brother, friend, co worker, stranger, we can, you could
Howard Brown:choose to become an all star each day, you're the one who
Howard Brown:sets the definition of how you're an all star and how you
Howard Brown:perform. And you look in that mirror and say, I am blessed.
Howard Brown:I'm grateful. We're going to make it a great day. I'm going
Howard Brown:to help myself and I'll help others. Good All Star start to
Howard Brown:the day. Anyways, I'm gonna give you your NBA. Okay, so the NBA
Howard Brown:of resilience. First is your mind. Who you are, who you are,
Howard Brown:how are you defining yourself internally? And how are you
Howard Brown:defining yourself externally? How are you showing up each day.
Howard Brown:And part of living life and what I call survivorship, is how you
Howard Brown:show up each day. And there are some days you just got to crawl
Howard Brown:back into bed. I get it, I get it. But there are other days
Howard Brown:where you are just beaming, and you are living a great life and
Howard Brown:you are actually sharing your light with others in the world.
Howard Brown:The next part of the NBA is your body. Where are you at
Howard Brown:physically? Do you feel okay? Do you want to get stronger? Do you
Howard Brown:need to hit the gym? Do you need to get outside? More? Do you
Howard Brown:need to schedule an exercise? And I actually call this finding
Howard Brown:your happy place in pursuit of your happy place? What is the
Howard Brown:happy place? How do you define it? I defined buying on the
Howard Brown:basketball court. I've been playing since I was six years
Howard Brown:old. And why I loved the basketball court because it's my
Howard Brown:stress free zone. I actually just nothing else matters on the
Howard Brown:basketball court. I was able to actually weed out anything else
Howard Brown:happening around me. My judgement free zone no matter if
Howard Brown:I play really bad or not. And I like to go there as often as
Howard Brown:possible. What's your happy place? Is it cooking? Is it
Howard Brown:yoga? Is it meditation? Is it nature? Is it hiking? Is it
Howard Brown:water? Is it mountains? Is it art? Find your happy place? Go
Howard Brown:there as much as you possibly can. And then the a of the NBA
Howard Brown:is your actions? Where are you going? What's your purpose
Howard Brown:today? Could be a simple purpose to actually just get organised.
Howard Brown:organising your thoughts, organising your physical
Howard Brown:surroundings. That's a simple action. Maybe the action is to
Howard Brown:go help somebody else that really needs it. Maybe you got
Howard Brown:to go to work like most people do. And what are you going to do
Howard Brown:to get your jump, job done and possibly others? It's all right.
Howard Brown:You got a game plan each day, that time management is really
Howard Brown:really important to figure that. So how are you using your MBA
Howard Brown:for resilience? who you are? Where are you at? Where are you
Howard Brown:going? Think about that. Now, the biggest part of the
Howard Brown:resilience code for me, is to not isolate. We're a body of
Howard Brown:people like animals that should be in packs. And as I said, the
Howard Brown:pandemic brought loneliness. So try not to isolate. But if you
Howard Brown:do, isolate for your reason, maybe that's your meditation.
Howard Brown:Maybe that's your time for planning. Maybe that's a time
Howard Brown:where you're actually pushing the ability to psych yourself up
Howard Brown:to do something great and big. It's okay. But if we isolate too
Howard Brown:long, as I said too bad things happen. The next thing is is
Howard Brown:that I'm asking everyone to be selfish expecially in your time
Howard Brown:and needs, who's going to take care of you but you
Howard Brown:who is going to take care of you but you so in your time of need.
Howard Brown:take care of you. But if you can't seek help, there's so many
Howard Brown:ways to get help. There really is. Phone a friend, find
Howard Brown:something online, listen to some calming music, there's ways to
Howard Brown:get help. And then there's actually groups, so many groups
Howard Brown:out there. Go be around people. And if you're able to take and
Howard Brown:go help somebody else, you take that spotlight off yourself. And
Howard Brown:you're able to be able to then not think about your situation,
Howard Brown:but go think about others and doing something nice for them.
Howard Brown:And so, this is all part of the self care, self love plan, that
Howard Brown:you must design for yourself, and execute. Self love equals
Howard Brown:self care, mentally, physically, financially, and in
Howard Brown:relationship. And you can choose to be kind, you can choose to be
Howard Brown:a giving person. Choose to be a healing person, for yourself and
Howard Brown:others. I absolutely recommend choosing hope. Because Hope is
Howard Brown:the fuel that can get you through. You can choose
Howard Brown:gratitude. And lastly, you can choose positivity, and that's
Howard Brown:list is endless. Make your own list. But that's that's the
Howard Brown:resiliency code. Looking within choosing some of these things,
Howard Brown:kindness, giving healing, hope, positivity, gratitude, applying
Howard Brown:them in your day. Now, I'm not going to tell you it happens
Howard Brown:overnight. If you tell me I want to lose 100 pounds overnight,
Howard Brown:I'm going to tell you that I've got some land to sell you. You
Howard Brown:know, in Florida that has gold on it. You have to understand
Howard Brown:that things take time, they are process based and keep track of
Howard Brown:your progress. Small wins are really important. Because the
Howard Brown:small wins build the momentum. And they actually show that
Howard Brown:you're serious. You're taking yourself serious. And that
Howard Brown:toughness then builds like a muscle, it gets stronger and
Howard Brown:stronger and stronger. And that's really being self aware
Howard Brown:of where you're going and what you need to do. So it's not
Howard Brown:magic. It's not magic. Some people have to come from further
Howard Brown:deep down than others. I certainly did in my two cancer
Howard Brown:diagnosis. But I'm here today, I am living, walking, breathing.
Howard Brown:I'm trying to rebuild Humpty Dumpty every single day and make
Howard Brown:them stronger, better faster than before. So, with that this
Howard Brown:is a short episode. Just want to tell you that shine brightly
Howard Brown:every single day for yourself, then for others than for your
Howard Brown:neighbourhood and your community. And I guarantee you,
Howard Brown:the world will become a better place. So I'm putting on my
Howard Brown:sunglasses. We're shining brightly. Thank you
