Howard Brown:important we hear these terms self care equals self love. What
Howard Brown:does that all mean? Well, I've got a great guest who's going to
Howard Brown:talk us through it today and tell us why this is so important
Howard Brown:in building yourself confidence in you, Linda Orsini Welcome.
Howard Brown:How are you?
Linda Orsini:I am fantastic. Thank you, Howard.
Howard Brown:WOW. So, this is I always like to learn from all of
Howard Brown:our coaches and experts. And I want to tell you a little bit
Howard Brown:about Linda. So Linda Orsini is the founder of the global
Howard Brown:wellness education, and the host of a call for love power
Howard Brown:podcast. So she's a retired school teacher. 30 years
Howard Brown:experience. What grade?
Linda Orsini:All grades all grades in elementary?
Howard Brown:All right, well, we gotta love our teachers. They
Howard Brown:are role models, and they are heroes. Oh my goodness. 30 years
Howard Brown:of teaching. Linda is passionate advocate for personal growth and
Howard Brown:transformation. Her own profound healing journey through anxiety,
Howard Brown:Soul fatigue, fear, self limiting beliefs has fueled an
Howard Brown:unwavering commitment to empowering others on their
Howard Brown:transformative journeys, where their expertise and body mind
Howard Brown:and spirit practices. lindo will skillfully guide you toward a
Howard Brown:life flowing with love, self care, self compassion, inner
Howard Brown:peace and joy helping you release the blocks and pains
Howard Brown:that are preventing you from living your best life. Oh, wow,
Howard Brown:we need Linda. Linda, tell us fill in the blanks. What did I
Howard Brown:miss. And also include something that we may not know about you
Howard Brown:something that you want to share?
Linda Orsini:Well, I'm so happy to be here. And I love your
Linda Orsini:podcast. So what an honour it is to speak with you and your
Linda Orsini:listeners. I am the youngest of 11 children. So you may not know
Linda Orsini:that, yeah, I have 10 older brothers and sisters. And so I'm
Linda Orsini:the youngest and maybe feisty. Like to add feisty there and
Linda Orsini:really independent. And I get things done. So I am self
Linda Orsini:motivated. And I just do not wait for things to happen. I
Linda Orsini:kind of had the mindset to create them myself. So that's
Linda Orsini:just a different piece of information I like to share.
Howard Brown:You had a whole team of people. Oh, love it. Oh,
Howard Brown:my goodness, you're the baby. So Oh, my God, you had so many
Howard Brown:people taking care of your that's amazing. Did you get
Howard Brown:special treatment as being the youngest of 11.
Linda Orsini:You know, my mom went to the bedroom at the top
Linda Orsini:of the stairs. And every time somebody came in the house,
Linda Orsini:she'd say, I made an apple pie just for you. And then the next
Linda Orsini:person would come in the house and she would say, I made an
Linda Orsini:apple pie just for you. And we would all hear this, but we
Linda Orsini:would all be delighted. And then one day I was in a bookstore and
Linda Orsini:the title said love each child the most. And I think she really
Linda Orsini:live that both my parents did. There was lots of love to go
Linda Orsini:around.
Howard Brown:God bless her 11 children. That's amazing. And
Howard Brown:it's great sage advice from your mom. So I thank you for sharing
Howard Brown:that. Well, let's dig in and we're going to chop it up a
Howard Brown:little bit. So school teacher for 30 years. And you you
Howard Brown:actually in your bio, I read that you have an anxiety you had
Howard Brown:soul fatigue, Soul fatigue, what is that you have to explain self
Howard Brown:limiting beliefs. Tell us what happened to you. What's your
Howard Brown:story?
Linda Orsini:Well, I was a school teacher and I loved it.
Linda Orsini:Like I seriously loved it. But I would wake up every morning
Linda Orsini:almost in tears, didn't know how I was going to make it through
Linda Orsini:each day. I was completely exhausted. And this is where
Linda Orsini:it's just not exhausted in your body, but your energy. So I am a
Linda Orsini:yoga meditation guide, sound healer and Reiki master so I do
Linda Orsini:know what it feels like to be in your spirit so depleted. And I
Linda Orsini:would wake up each morning almost in tears not knowing how
Linda Orsini:I was going to manage to the day and I decided to find my own
Linda Orsini:path to healing my energy body and my mind because I was very
Linda Orsini:anxious and anxiety as we know is worrying about the future. So
Linda Orsini:I decided to really empower myself by first di diving into
Linda Orsini:somatic healing practices and when I say somatic which I'm
Linda Orsini:sure your your listeners will be interested to hear. We carry
Linda Orsini:trauma, pain, worry suffering in our body in our physical body.
Linda Orsini:And in order to relieve that is very helpful and actually
Linda Orsini:detrimental to relieve it to our energy body through nature
Linda Orsini:through restorative yoga, through breath, work, all these
Linda Orsini:different modalities, sorry, different modalities that really
Linda Orsini:guide you to self healing. Wow,
Howard Brown:I resonate with it, but I am not a yoga guy or a
Howard Brown:meditation guy, I get it all out on the basketball court through
Howard Brown:extreme exercise, hiking, biking, basketball, but there's
Howard Brown:a lot of my audience here that needs to be able to process
Howard Brown:that, especially folks that have been dealt with cancer or
Howard Brown:caregivers. And I, I heard something that resonated with me
Howard Brown:with you is that you are, you're waking up every day with fear
Howard Brown:before you went to work. And that can lead to bad things, and
Howard Brown:burnout. And I hear that in the nursing profession, we're
Howard Brown:hearing that in the teaching profession now. And that's not a
Howard Brown:good way to wake up every day. I mean, you want to wake up every
Howard Brown:day and try to be as positive as you can and be blessed. Be
Howard Brown:grateful, seize the day, but you had to overcome that. And now
Howard Brown:you help others to do so. So that's really, really important.
Howard Brown:Now, I listened to your podcast to where mutual fans were very
Howard Brown:aligned, about motivate, educate, and inspire our
Howard Brown:listeners. And I want you to tell us how your podcast came
Howard Brown:about. And it's called the call for love. And what inspired you
Howard Brown:to choose that name? And what does that really mean to you?
Linda Orsini:Well, it's so interesting, because I knew I
Linda Orsini:wanted to start a podcast and I didn't know what what I was
Linda Orsini:going to name it. And it came to me one day, because if you think
Linda Orsini:of your day, Howard, and if the listeners think of their day,
Linda Orsini:how many different emotions have you felt up to this point of
Linda Orsini:listening? You could have had joy, exhaustion, fear, stress,
Linda Orsini:anxiety, anger, you could have had resentment, you could have
Linda Orsini:had a whole range of emotions. And in one day, you can
Linda Orsini:experience so many emotions. And instead of calling them in some
Linda Orsini:spiritual texts, because I am a student of A Course in Miracles,
Linda Orsini:they say there's two emotions, there's fear. And then there's
Linda Orsini:love. And the first episode of my podcast series, a talk about
Linda Orsini:the difference between the two, and and how on these rocks, I
Linda Orsini:was painting, fear on one side and love on the other. And fear
Linda Orsini:means stress, anxiety, resentment, anger, sadness, all
Linda Orsini:those negative emotions. And that's the What fear kind of
Linda Orsini:represents. And I realised I don't want to think of my life
Linda Orsini:as love and fear, because fear is so negative, and I'm in it a
Linda Orsini:lot. And so, through A Course in Miracles, and the tax, there is
Linda Orsini:another term that you can call fear. And that's a call for
Linda Orsini:love. So you can be in two places, you can be either in a
Linda Orsini:place of love, or there's a call for love. And I think it's
Linda Orsini:really empowering for us to notice, where we are standing.
Linda Orsini:Are we standing in the light? Are we starting in the shadow in
Linda Orsini:the darkness? And noticing it, just noticing it? And that's the
Linda Orsini:first peace? Are you in a place of love? Or is there a call for
Linda Orsini:love. And then when you notice that and you give yourself some
Linda Orsini:time and space. And when you offer yourself Self Compassion,
Linda Orsini:because to notice it requires some courage to say, Oh, I'm
Linda Orsini:feeling really angry and to hold space for that, then you can
Linda Orsini:invite love in. And that's a call for love.
Howard Brown:Well, we're shining brightly as you know,
Howard Brown:with the sun coming off those that are listening on video, I'm
Howard Brown:staring at a sign behind you and I want to read it because you
Howard Brown:just said about the two places have a call for love or it's
Howard Brown:amazing. So behind you, I'm reading and for those listening
Howard Brown:and watching you'll be able to see it but for those listening,
Howard Brown:it says every day, laugh, celebrate love, dream, hope,
Howard Brown:learn and brace wish, share, enjoy, give live and smile. And
Howard Brown:it's it's I'm just staring at it going. That's amazing and you're
Howard Brown:trying to live in that embodiment or you're trying to
Howard Brown:get there and that's it's cool. So I I really appreciate you
Howard Brown:having that sign behind you. It's a great reminder to where
Howard Brown:we can get to or if we're already there to just really be
Howard Brown:thankful and grateful that we were there in some parts of it.
Howard Brown:or day or life and things like that. So on your path to self
Howard Brown:love, you give me some stories of how this, how this
Howard Brown:transformed you, I'm sure people look at some tangible examples.
Howard Brown:So share some stories with us.
Linda Orsini:Okay, I will, I am so happy you mentioned this
Linda Orsini:because I had guided a retreat for some woman, just the other
Linda Orsini:week. And on my way home, I had an experience that was not very
Linda Orsini:pleasant, you know, I have a super great marriage, like
Linda Orsini:divorced and remarried. And I hadn't been with my husband for
Linda Orsini:almost three weeks, because I had been travelling, yada, yada,
Linda Orsini:yada. And I was listening to all the things he was doing without
Linda Orsini:me and I have some jealousy, I had some jealousy. And so this
Linda Orsini:is noticing. And then I got a little cranky. And, you know,
Linda Orsini:all these feelings were coming up that were not very pleasant.
Linda Orsini:So because of my practice of a love, or a call for love, I
Linda Orsini:noticed I was not in a place of love. And I could say things
Linda Orsini:that were just unnecessary and, and nasty. And mean, and I
Linda Orsini:didn't want to this is marriage, you know, we're all if you're in
Linda Orsini:a marriage or a partnership, you know, these things come up. And
Linda Orsini:so I was thinking to myself, Okay, I noticed that I'm not in
Linda Orsini:a place of love. I'm not in a good space. So what am I going
Linda Orsini:to do, I'm going to step back, and I can say anything, I'm
Linda Orsini:going to feel all my emotions, hold space for all my emotions,
Linda Orsini:and then offer self compassion. And there's three components to
Linda Orsini:self compassion. There's the first one is self kindness, oh,
Linda Orsini:I'm feeling these feelings, and they're not comfortable.
Linda Orsini:What am I going to do? So I offer myself
Linda Orsini:some soothing, that maybe placed my hand on my heart, or maybe
Linda Orsini:you know, I rub my forehead, or I roll my shoulders and release
Linda Orsini:it from my body. And then I say, you know, this is not unusual,
Linda Orsini:that, you know, I've been away for about three weeks. And you
Linda Orsini:know, we've led our separate lives for a couple of weeks, and
Linda Orsini:these emotions could come up. This is part of the human
Linda Orsini:experience. Just noticing that and appreciating that. And then
Linda Orsini:I gave myself some space, I breathed into it, I went for a
Linda Orsini:little walk, I put my feet in the in the grass and the ground,
Linda Orsini:it gave me some space I, I took some deep breaths, and
Linda Orsini:pranayama, which is breathing techniques in yoga. And then I
Linda Orsini:let it go. And then I can and then when I finally got home, I
Linda Orsini:could greet him with love and kindness, because I was very
Linda Orsini:happy and excited to see him. But it was a journey. It was a
Linda Orsini:journey to notice that we get triggers in our life, that are
Linda Orsini:painful or uncomfortable. We notice them, we create space for
Linda Orsini:them. We offer ourselves self compassion. And then we switch
Linda Orsini:we flip the switch from those unhealthy emotions that hold us
Linda Orsini:back from living our true light from shining brightly into a
Linda Orsini:place of love. And that's what I want to be. And that's what I
Linda Orsini:advocate for is that it's through our mindset, and through
Linda Orsini:practices that we can flip into a place of love. And then when
Linda Orsini:you are self compassionate and loving. What does that do? It
Linda Orsini:ripples outward. It makes the whole world a brighter place.
Linda Orsini:And everything all love comes from self love. All love comes
Linda Orsini:from ourselves. So that is an example of how I practice how I
Linda Orsini:walk the talk.
Howard Brown:I appreciate that. So it's fear of missing out
Howard Brown:because you he was maybe golfing or doing something with his
Howard Brown:friends and I get it. And then so you said there were three
Howard Brown:things in self compassion I got one was self kindness. The
Howard Brown:second one was with creating space.
Linda Orsini:So self kindness, yes. common humanity, which is
Linda Orsini:really knowing that this is part of the human experience. Okay,
Linda Orsini:and number three, and and they're in no particular order,
Linda Orsini:and mindfulness. That means holding space noticing. So
Linda Orsini:you're going to notice maybe offer yourself some kindness and
Linda Orsini:then know that this is not unusual and they could come that
Linda Orsini:you can have some more of one than the other and they can come
Linda Orsini:in different order, but always usually It really starts with
Linda Orsini:the mindfulness piece is just noticing. And I like to say
Linda Orsini:where you're standing, are you standing in love? Or is there a
Linda Orsini:call for love? So noticing first the sensations of uncomfortable.
Howard Brown:I appreciate that. And I, the reason I wanted to
Howard Brown:get that down was because it's easy to hear it, but I missed
Howard Brown:it. Because I was really listening to your examples, and
Howard Brown:then putting it into practice. So I want to actually then now,
Howard Brown:you're an advocate for self compassion, and you have this
Howard Brown:wisdom, when someone is going through struggles, okay, I live
Howard Brown:in the cancer world, and the patients and their caregivers
Howard Brown:and their families are struggling. But you know,
Howard Brown:whether it's addiction or loss of job or divorce, or
Howard Brown:relationships, we all get knocked down. And it's you have
Howard Brown:to get back up again. And I always say that we lift
Howard Brown:ourselves up. And that's what you do. So when someone comes to
Howard Brown:you, what advice do you offer them? When they're in the
Howard Brown:struggle? Well, how do you get started? And where do you take
Howard Brown:them through?
Linda Orsini:Well, that's an excellent question. And I have
Linda Orsini:coaching clients, and although I have not particularly dealt with
Linda Orsini:cancer patients, per se, I have dealt with people who are really
Linda Orsini:struggling with death of a partner or a friend or breakups,
Linda Orsini:life traumatic events. And what I say is, what are you feeling?
Linda Orsini:What are you feeling? What, what emotions are going through? And
Linda Orsini:no doubtedly fear will come up? Where do you feel it in your
Linda Orsini:body? Where is this sorrow? Where is this fear? Where is
Linda Orsini:this anger? Where are you feeling it in your body, your
Linda Orsini:emotional body, and they can sometimes place their hands on
Linda Orsini:their heart, you know, they can feel it in their digestion. And
Linda Orsini:you know, when your body when you're holding these thoughts in
Linda Orsini:your mind, it becomes dis ease. And ease in the mind is not
Linda Orsini:helping the body. So knowing what you're feeling, noticing
Linda Orsini:where it is in your body. And then the instinct is no one
Linda Orsini:likes uncomfortable. We always are trying to push away, what is
Linda Orsini:not pleasant. And the key here is to hold space for what is
Linda Orsini:unpleasant, in order to move through it. Because if we push
Linda Orsini:it aside, we're ignoring it. But when we hold space for it, it
Linda Orsini:can move through us. And we can leave it behind. And it doesn't
Linda Orsini:become a burden and it doesn't become a weight.
Howard Brown:I appreciate that. One of the things that where you
Howard Brown:and I have just really, really well aligned is that so I carry
Howard Brown:my stress on my shoulders, and then you carry it obviously in
Howard Brown:your head, what I do is, at times, go help somebody else, it
Howard Brown:actually takes my mind off of that and going being a mentor,
Howard Brown:or listening ear or a hug for somebody else. And that actually
Howard Brown:helps a little bit in rejuvenating me, and then I can
Howard Brown:focus back on me. Because I say, you know, you got to lift
Howard Brown:yourself up first. And but I find that helping others, the
Howard Brown:endorphins, just kind of then allow me to come back to me all
Howard Brown:that. But the world is stressful. And again, it's how
Howard Brown:you actually take it on is what I'm hearing from you. But
Howard Brown:focusing back and giving people the right tools, whether that's
Howard Brown:breathing, I call it finding your happy place, the stress
Howard Brown:free zone. So we're talking about the same thing. You use
Howard Brown:the mindfulness techniques and things like that as well, which
Howard Brown:are certainly important. And when people see these things
Howard Brown:working for them, I think you'll agree that the practice of
Howard Brown:gratitude, self gratitude, and gratitude really helps carry you
Howard Brown:forward. And so can you speak to that a little bit?
Linda Orsini:Yes, well, I would like to go back a little bit and
Linda Orsini:say that, first of all, we need to know what our body needs to
Linda Orsini:release that cortisol that that springs up and you said you play
Linda Orsini:basketball. You know, sometimes that's what you need, you know,
Linda Orsini:you need to release that that energy and then you can come
Linda Orsini:into a place of more calm, but when you practice self
Linda Orsini:compassion, it automatically creates a more empathetic
Linda Orsini:person. And that's what we want because when we become self
Linda Orsini:compassionate and self compassion is not selfish. It's
Linda Orsini:tapping into what we need. Only then can we bought being more
Linda Orsini:empathetic to others. And that's what I say a call for love. What
Linda Orsini:are we living if we're just loving ourselves, and we're not
Linda Orsini:spreading that out to others, so that you first reach out to
Linda Orsini:others, it's an act of love. An act of love grows, right? It's
Linda Orsini:not limited, is full abundance. So you're spreading that love
Linda Orsini:and energetically, that's a higher vibration. And when you
Linda Orsini:are sharing that light, and that love with others, it can't, it
Linda Orsini:can't not stop. At just them, it permeates everyone. And that's a
Linda Orsini:sense of gratitude. We knew, fill, fill and live your life
Linda Orsini:from a place of love, without resentment without fear all
Linda Orsini:those places, your vibration changes, your health changes,
Linda Orsini:your skin changes, I swear your whole physical body changes, you
Linda Orsini:have this glow and this light around you shining brightly. How
Linda Orsini:can you shine brightly? If you're living in a place of
Linda Orsini:fear, anxiety, stress? No, is. But I say that it's it's not
Linda Orsini:automatic. For a lot of people, a lot of people need some
Linda Orsini:guidance to work through it. Because we stick we stick to
Linda Orsini:those negative emotions. And that's where meditation is so so
Linda Orsini:important, because it teaches us that we are not going to die
Linda Orsini:from an unhealthy emotion, that it's like the wave of the ocean
Linda Orsini:is going to come to us and guess what is going to roll away?
Howard Brown:So yeah, that meditation is one of the tools
Howard Brown:and practices that that helps. I'm assuming you. Are there
Howard Brown:others, you speak of a couple others on your podcast, I
Howard Brown:noticed.
Linda Orsini:Yeah. So well, I in my podcasts I am including
Linda Orsini:meditations and I am on Insight Timer. Now. I'm an advocate for
Linda Orsini:meditation, because of the benefits are really mind
Linda Orsini:boggling. It's 1000s upon, probably since humankind has
Linda Orsini:come on this earth, meditation has been a practice. Meditation
Linda Orsini:is paramount to living healthy in our mind and body, and to be
Linda Orsini:best stewards of this earth. So meditation, I do believe that,
Linda Orsini:you know, energy can't be created or destroyed. It's not
Linda Orsini:even my belief. It's a fact, right? It's a scientific fact
Linda Orsini:that energy cannot be created or destroyed. So your energy, how
Linda Orsini:are you living in it? How are you moving through it, and it
Linda Orsini:can get stuck in our body. And then once again, that's where it
Linda Orsini:dis ease can come in. And so as a Reiki Master, and transfer,
Linda Orsini:formative life coach and I am trained in hypnotherapy, all
Linda Orsini:these modalities, I think I've studied almost everything there
Linda Orsini:is it's a strength, but it's a weakness. Because I am more of a
Linda Orsini:student than a teacher, I love learning. The thing, the reason
Linda Orsini:why I've learned all these modalities is because
Linda Orsini:something's going to resonate with one person. And when I have
Linda Orsini:my clients, I have a whole toolbox that I can pull from
Linda Orsini:that resonates with them. Especially if there's certain
Linda Orsini:personalities, you know, some people are not going to want to
Linda Orsini:sit still through a meditation, but I can guide them through a
Linda Orsini:very gentle movement practice, which helps them get closer to
Linda Orsini:that somatic healing.
Howard Brown:Well, you spoke of, you know, fear and anxiety
Howard Brown:and stress and I in my book, I refer to that as darkness. And
Howard Brown:that's where people are trying to get out of, I just read a
Howard Brown:fact that coming out of the pandemic, and COVID, where we
Howard Brown:were very much restricted on what we could and cannot do. The
Howard Brown:number one thing coming out now is the emotion of loneliness.
Howard Brown:It's really interesting in a world, you know, people have
Howard Brown:really missed getting out and being amongst people, the
Howard Brown:embrace of a hug and things like that. And how can how can get
Howard Brown:into the place of love, help that help you. Because
Howard Brown:loneliness is something that people are dealing with now. And
Howard Brown:you need to be able to look inward and be able to then share
Howard Brown:yourself once you're, you know, ready to ready to, you know, on
Howard Brown:a solid foundation. So did you know that about loneliness is
Howard Brown:one of the big emotional malaise coming out of the pandemic?
Howard Brown:Well,
Linda Orsini:I would say loneliness could be all the
Linda Orsini:time, but it was just more emphasised in COVID. You know,
Linda Orsini:you know, in the jail, what did they do? The worst torture is
Linda Orsini:putting you in solitary confinement, right? Yeah. So
Linda Orsini:being alone is is often terrifying. And it's funny that
Linda Orsini:you should mention this because I just came off of a five day
Linda Orsini:silent retreat, and being alone with oneself is no walk in the
Linda Orsini:park. It's not a picnic. And I, once again, if we're feeling
Linda Orsini:lonely, notice the feeling off for years noticing is
Linda Orsini:mindfulness than offering yourself loving kindness. And
Linda Orsini:then knowing that it's not unusual to feel lonely, it's
Linda Orsini:part of being this human experience. And then shining
Linda Orsini:brightly taking that love and taking it outward. My father
Linda Orsini:always used to say, Go serve. My parents were big, volunteer
Linda Orsini:people, my brothers and sisters were really advocates for living
Linda Orsini:and loving and moving outside of ourselves. So if you're lonely,
Linda Orsini:give what you want. You want more love, give love. You want
Linda Orsini:more time, give time, you want more attention, give attention,
Linda Orsini:and then it will come back to you like a boomerang.
Howard Brown:It's great advice. While this is this, my show is
Howard Brown:only a teaser, because people got to go watch your show and
Howard Brown:get in touch with you. So this is the moment we are going to
Howard Brown:shine. We have shined all show. But now the shining brightly the
Howard Brown:spotlight is on you, Linda, I'd love for you to tell people how
Howard Brown:they can get in touch with you. And then give us some final
Howard Brown:thoughts and then kick it back over me for the show wrap.
Linda Orsini:Well, I would love to offer your listeners journal.
Linda Orsini:It's a seven day guide to self love, which I will keep
Linda Orsini:available for your listeners. And of course, I'm on all the
Linda Orsini:platforms. A call for love is my my podcast name, and also my
Linda Orsini:social media. But my Business is Global wellness education,
Linda Orsini:because I'm a speaker, a coach, mine mindfulness guide,
Linda Orsini:meditation guide so many modalities. So I decided as an
Linda Orsini:educator, and global, I advocate for wellness. So my my business
Linda Orsini:name is Global Wellness Education.
Howard Brown:And well thank you. And also I want to add that
